Fundamentals of Laser Scanner Welding

Laser scanner welding combines the advantages of the remote welding, the scanner and the robot, with professional graphics processing software, which can achieve 3D instantaneous multi-track welding.

Laser scanner welding is the movement of the robot arm in conjunction with the high dynamic positioning motion of the laser scanner. The laser beam is transmitted through the optical fiber to the programmed focusing optical head (PFO) that mounted on the robot. The two high-speed scanning mirrors (the “filters”) cause the laser beam to move at high speeds in accordance with a pre-programmed path, and the sheet metal is welded by telecentric lens focusing.

The smaller heat input ensures less deformation after welding and is more conducive to product quality. Because it is closely matched with the laser scanner by the robot arm, it ensures zero contact with the workpiece during the welding process. The weld position can be flexibly changed and the multi-point welding of large parts and complex curved surfaces can be realized. It not only reduces the excessive investment of the welding equipment and the occupation of the use site, but also reduces the production cost, and the overall welding effect is stable.

Laser scanner welding mainly used in auto body, seat and commonly auto parts manufacturing etc. Materials can be applied to all types of steel, cold-rolled plates, aluminum alloy, and composite materials such as Mg-Al alloy etc.
